Tutorial: How to Make a DIY Wooden Sign

Pinterest is a dangerous place. It gives me all sorts of ideas, like this DIY wooden sign! It was fun to make and I thought I’d share this project with you. Maybe you get inspired, too!

Lee worked on a pallet project recently and these are the letfovers. Just perfect for some DIY signs!

First, I sanded the planks down with my friend Black & Decker. See what a difference it makes!

I used mending plates to put the planks neatly together, 4 of them cost me about £3.50 from B&Q. Not to forget D-rings and garden twine.

This is a really important step! I took a photo of the sign and opened it in Photoshop. I designed the sign and decided the colours. Then, I changed the design so it shows only the outlines (strokes), and printed it out.

Checking that it fits!

Just making sure that it fits!

Tracedown paper from Hobbycraft. Really useful!

I traced the outlines with firm pressure. Slow and steady.

It's very easy to see the outlines on wood.

I found some acrylic paint and brushes in my magic crafts box. It never lets me down! Now, I carefully painted the letters and applied a second coat for extra coverage.

Cute, isn't it?

Love this quote - it's exactly how Lee and I felt when we found each other!
